ASM Hydrasynth Demo - Poly Aftertouch 4 All [NO TALKING]

video upload by Marshal Arnold

"That's right, I finally am doing a demo of my ASM Hydrasynth! I picked up this synth for a steal online in 2020. I did have a chance to demo the Hydrasynth back in 2019 at Knobcon and I was really blown away by the innovation on display, it was inevitable that I would eventually end up scooping one of these up. Finally, a modern synthesizer with Poly Aftertouch!! Or well, as Ashun Sound Machines calls it, Polytouch, trademarked of course :)

You can catch my interview with Ashun Sound Machines Glen Darcey from Knobcon here: [below]

I'm demoing a few of my favorite factory presets in bank A and B. Really, this is the first time I had a solid few hours with this synth and I have to say that I really like some of these presets. I will be dedicating some additional time to learn the ins and outs of the Hydrasynth, and will eventually do a follow up featuring some custom patches."

ASM Hydrasynth In-Depth Demo at Knobcon 2019

video upload by Marshal Arnold

"At Knobcon Number 8 I was fortunate to speak to Glen Darcey who is the VP of Product Development at ASM (Ashun Sound Machines). He and his colleague, Dominic Au (Product Manager at ASM) were very kind and spend some time in front of the camera to show off the Hydrasynth, a new Digital Wave Morphing synthesizer that is set to be available in November 2019, just in time for the Holidays!"

Nord Wave - Making waves since 2008 - [NO TALKING]

video upload by Marshal Arnold

"Ah, the Nord Wave, one of my favorites from back in the day! I bought one back in 2009, held on to it for a time, but sold it eventually. I am happy to report that this red beast here I snagged back in 2016. Oh, how lovely this synth sounds! IMO it has the best comb filter ever!

The Nord Wave had some very innovative features for the time. You could connect it to a computer and load your own samples in and use them as oscillators. The Wave Manager software is pretty good even today. It shipped with some Mellotron samples as well! I really love the Mellotron flute, so nice! It has basic FM with 19 two-operator FM algorithms. I hope to snag a Nord Wave 2 eventually, but for now this will do quite well.

I just scratch the surface in this demo, the synth comes packed with over 1000 presets, many are very good out of the box, but in classic Nord fashion the UI is right there for the tweaking!

Nord Micro Modular - Digital Spaghetti from the 90s [No Talking Demo]

video by Marshal Arnold

"Nord Micro Modular - Digital Spaghetti from the 90s [No Talking Demo]

Tonight I demo some patches from the Clavia Nord Micro Modular. Released in 1999, this really was an innovative synthesizer. It's limited to 4 voices, so you will see/hear some voice stealing taking place especially with patches with long release times.

I did use some reverb and delay in Ableton to make things sound a bit more enjoyable.

This synth I've owned for a few years but haven't really had a chance to dig into it. Well, tonight I start! I did do some playing around with it on a live stream some years ago, but nothing really useful to folks so I wanted to give it a proper audio demo video.

Most patches are factory patches, but I did have a go with some patching, I used a preset as a starting point, but created something totally new. This really makes me want to try to pick up the actual Nord Modular or the G2. Let me know what you think of the Nord Micro Modular!

“Reissues” – Ft. Prophet 10 rev 4 - Arp 2600 FS - MINIMOOG - MS-20 and more – Powered by BlueARP DM

video by Marshal Arnold

“Reissues” – Ft. Prophet 10 rev 4 - Arp 2600 FS - MINIMOOG - MS-20 and more – Powered by BlueARP DM

Tonight, I perform some live Trance using a combination analog and digital reissued synths I own. The track is my original work, and features the Sequential Prophet 10 rev 4, Korg ARP 2600 FS, Moog Minimoog Model D and the Korg MS-20 Mini. I am also using a Roland TR8s, a Roland D-05 Boutique and several Roland Cloud drum machines and synths as well.

The cool thing here is that a good chunk of the sequences and patterns are driven by the amazing BlueARP DM MK.1. A hardware Arpeggiator and Pattern Sequencer developed by Oleg Mikheev, AKA Graywolf. I have been fortunate to help Oleg with beta testing the BlueARP DM and have been itching to get it more integrated into my workflow. This was a great opportunity to combine a bunch of wonderful analog and digital reissued synthesizers with this super cool BlueARP hardware.
I have a few backing tracks all played live on the V-Synth (which is multitimbral.. how many of you knew that? Lol) triggered with the Ableton Push and one instance of Omnisphere also adding an almost string like swell.

Below is each synth and what it was doing in this track-

Hardware Synthesizers and Drum Machines:

Korg MS-20 Mini – Main Bassline (Sequenced by BlueARP DM)

Moog Minimoog Model D Reissue – Secondary Bassline (16th note pattern sequenced by BlueARP DM)

Korg ARP 2600 FS – FX (the long sweep at the start of each 2 measures is the 2600, this also is triggered with BlueARP DM)

Prophet 10 Rev 4 – Main Lead (played in real-time by hand, including filter cutoff modulation)

Roland D-05 Boutique – FX (a short dry sweep heard at the start of every 2 measures, triggered in Ableton Live)

Roland V-Synth – Secondary Synth Lead and backing track on second timber. The Lead is played in real-time by hand including filter cutoff modulation, but the backing pattern is triggered on MIDI chnl 3 of the V-Synth sequenced by BlueARP DM.

Roland TR8s – The thicker clap that comes in is from the TR-8s – this is sequenced in Ableton Live

Soft Synths:
Roland Cloud

TR-909 for kick, Crash, clap and High Hats (Sequenced in Ableton Live)

TR-808 for High Hats and snare crescendo (Sequenced in Ableton Live)

Jupiter 8 – FX - A rapid stepped riser you hear at the end of every 2 measures (Sequenced in Ableton Live)

System 8 – another synth lead, heard at the beginning of the change right before the Prophet 10 comes in. (Sequenced with BlueARP DM)

Omnisphere 2.6 – Ambient type sound.. hard to explain, almost like a cello swell or something.

I think that’s all folks lol. Enjoy, thanks for watching!

Korg ARP 2600 - Patch Book Sounds + Reason 11 VST FX [No Talking]

Marshal Arnold

"Korg ARP 2600 - Patch Book Sounds + Reason 11 VST FX [No Talking]

So I downloaded the Korg ARP 2600 patch book and setup several patches to demo. I used the Reason 11 VST for effects, specifically I used the RV7000 reverb along with the DDL-1 Delay. Some patches also use the ARP 2600's spring reverb.

Patch list:
0:00 - Octabass
1:23 - String Sweetener
3:28 - Cowboy Harmonica
5:58 - Flute
8:53 - Heavy Metal Fuzz
11:07 - Trombone/Tuba

Somber 2600 - Korg ARP 2600

Marshal Arnold

"Using the wonderful Korg ARP 2600 synthesizer I was paying around a bit and recorded this short audio demo. It has quite a somber tone but sounds quite lovely with the spring reverb."

Korg ARP 2600 (FS) - First Hands On Demo - [NO TALKING]

Marshal Arnold

"Korg ARP 2600 (FS) - First Hands On Demo - [NO TALKING]

Well, it has arrived! The amazing ARP 2600 has been faithfully recreated by Korg and boy did they do a wonderful job! This is the 1st time I've ever used an ARP 2600 so I still have lots of exploring to do, but this is my 1st hands on demo. I created a few patches, but in future videos I will get a hold of some patch sheets and try out some other sounds. Let me know what you'd like to hear, bass? Leads? Splits?

Hats off to the team at Korg for making this possible!"

Roland V-Synth Demo - D Beams for LIFE! - [NO TALKING]

Marshal Arnold

"Ah, the OG V-Synth! This was one of the first synthesizers I purchased, I remember checking this out in the music shop several times, saving my pennies! The Roland V-Synth has some really uh, unique controls like the infamous D Beams and the Time Trip Pad. I crack jokes about D Beams all the time, but I will say that are a lot of fun! Here's some factory presets to check out! I really did get lost in this synth again :)

M-Audio Venom - Venomous to the Maximus [NO TALKING DEMO]

Published on Apr 14, 2020 Marshal Arnold

"M-Audio Venom - Venomous to the Maximus [NO TALKING DEMO]

Almost 10 years go M-Audio released their first synthesizer the Venom (2011). Sadly, this was also their last Synthesizer, at least to date. I remember being super jazzed about this synth after seeing videos at NAMM and seeing demos from Sonic State and others.

I had sold mine many years ago after being super disappointed in it and seems as though I was not alone. These synths now go for about $100.00-150.00 USD. When new they were quite a bit more. Anyway I picked one up about a year ago to have some fun, this video is a no talking demo of some of the performance presets. I moded a few of these, but ll audio is direct from the M-Audio Venom, no post processing was done."

4 Voice Moog Tower-of-Power! [Little Phatty + 3 Slim Phatty Polychain]

Published on Mar 1, 2020 Marshal Arnold

"Tonight I noodle around a bit with a 4 voice Moog Little Phatty and 3 Moog Slim Phatty Synthesizers!

Polychaining the Littple Phatty and Slim Phatty is a simple process, the synths are daisy chained via MIDI DIN cables and I'm using a Novation 61SL MKII to play.

I'm using some external effects in Ableton, they are:
Reason Rack 11 RV7000 MKII Reverb
WAVES H-Delay

The patch is a modified version of the patch 64 - Legato Sweep. I removed the distortion overdrive and the glide from that patch, plus opened up the filter to 50%."

The $15,000 Supersaw

Published on Feb 9, 2020 Marshal Arnold

"Tonight I set up 6 synthesizers I own with that Epic Trance style Supersaw sound. When I was making the video I realized that I paid just over $15000 USD in total for these synthesizers! Now that's a Super Expensive Supersaw!

I've set some limits on myself sound design wise so that you can hear what each synth sounds like at a base level when it comes to Supersaws. This way you can perhaps hear some differences on a level playing field not colored by built-in effects or more that the original 7 sawtooth waves in the original JP-8000.

I demo each synth quickly, then I play 4 of the 6 to give a taste minus the Moog One and the Roland Cloud System 8, then for the big one I play all 6 synthesizers at once for that $15000 Supersaw!

Synths used for this video are:

Roland JP-8000
Roland V-Synth GT
RolandCloud System 8
Waldorf Kyra
Access Virus TI2
Moog One

Let me know what you think of the $15,000 Supersaw!"

Reminds me of the White Album x 100:

That "Bob's" signature on the bottom right reminded me of the Bob signature in the BMF raffle that just went up. Fun coincidences.

How good is the Hypersaw mode in the Waldorf Kyra?

Published on Jan 17, 2020 Marshal Arnold

"How good is the Hypersaw mode in the Waldorf Kyra?

Tonight I explore the Hypersaw mode in the Waldorf Kyra VA Synthesizer. The Waldorf Kyra's Hypersaw mode consists of 6 detuned sawtooth waveforms. You have an intensity and a spread control on the Waldorf Kyra which allows you the ability to dial in the amount and intensity of detune between the saws.

Once I enable the Dual Mode we then hear 2 of the exact same Hypersaw patches stacked right on top of each other and spread out n the stereo spectrum. This really sounds amazing on the Waldorf Kyra.

There is also a Hypersaw Suboscillator as well which I explore. The effects are all Kyra as well, until 4:03 in the video when I disable the Kyra reverb and delay and replace them with the Arturia Rev Plate 140 and the ping-pong delay in Ableton live."

Roland JP-8000 Supersaw + Arturia Rev Plate-140 [No Talking]

Published on Dec 25, 2019 Marshal Arnold

"Tonight, I demo the Roland JP-8000 and it's legendary Supersaw. I have created a custom Epic Trance style Supersaw on the JP-8000 witch uses 2 layers packed full of Supersaws.

I've ran the Roland JP-8000 through external effects. I've used the stock delay in Ableton and the very excellent Arturia Rev Plate-140 reverberation unit.

This video is in preparation for a big Supersaw show down I'm working on. Look for it early 2020 on this channel. it will be the OG Roland JP-8000 vs 4 other wonderful synthesizers and their take on Supersaws.
